Although Bainbridge Island is a beautiful place, it is far from perfect when it comes to drug or alcohol addiction. Many residents in this city struggle with a substance use disorder (SUD). Opioid abuse rates, in particular, are quite high, and have steadily increased over the years.

For example, the opioid overdose death rate from 2002 to 2004 was 4.6 per 100,000. That number has jumped to 5.6 from 2011 to 2013. That’s a 21.7% increase. It’s even higher now. Also, from 2002 to 2004, 29.6 residents per 100,000 sought publicly funded addiction treatment. From 2011 to 2013, that number jumped to 119.7, which is a 304.6% increase.

Alcohol and Drug Rehabs in Bainbridge Island, WA

For those who have an alcohol addiction in Bainbridge Island, Washington, alcohol rehab is there to offer help and support during the recovery period. Alcohol rehab is an excellent option because it allows people to understand their addictions more fully. The counselors there can also work with patients on building the skills necessary to avoid relapsing once their treatment is over.

Levels of care

Drug rehab centers are basically the same as alcohol rehab centers. They offer the same type of services and levels of care. Patients will usually go through a detox program before diving into other parts of their addiction treatment plan. The detox program for both alcohol and drugs will help ease withdrawal symptoms and even prevent life-threatening ones like delirium tremens.

Unfortunately, there are no alcohol or drug rehab facilities in Bainbridge Island, WA. If you’re interested in getting help, you’ll need to look at the treatment facilities that are available in surrounding cities or in other states. There are many advantages to choosing a rehab center in another state or city.

When choosing a rehab facility that works for you, you should consider the level of care provided by the various programs. The level of care of each program refers to the amount of medical supervision and support you’ll receive while at the center. It’ll also determine the number of hours that you’ll have to commit to.

There are three main different levels of care. They include:

  • Inpatient treatment programs. With a residential inpatient program, you’ll stay at the treatment center until you’ve finished your treatment. You’ll receive around-the-clock care and supervision.
  • Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs). This is a step down from inpatient care. You’ll go to the rehab facility every day for 4 to 8 hours of treatment.
  • Outpatient programs. This is the most flexible option. There are no commitments involved with standard outpatient programs. With Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs), you’ll need to commit to at least 9 hours of treatment each week.

Northpoint Recovery is an inpatient treatment facility. We provide 24/7 nursing care and other addiction treatment services. An inpatient facility can offer you the support you need and a more individualized treatment plan. This may increase your chances of success. Every one of your needs will be met quickly with an inpatient program. The nursing staff will monitor your vitals and progress to make sure that you’re comfortable.

Our state-of-the-art rehab facility will also provide you with a comfortable recovery experience. You’ll be in a new environment and far away from triggers and stresses. This will allow you to focus on your recovery. You’ll also have immediate access to doctors, nursing staff and counselors. You’ll also get to meet other people in similar situations and build a strong support network while you’re here.

Detox Centers in Bainbridge Island, Washington

Today, most experts recognize the importance of drug and alcohol detox. It is often the very first step of any addiction recovery plan. In fact, it is so important that health insurance companies will even include it as a part of its benefits.

Drug and alcohol detox works by removing toxins from the bodies of those who have addictions. This process is essential to a successful recovery because it helps ease withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawals can often lead to relapse, as well as significant medical problems.

While most rehab programs will often include a detox program in their treatment plan, there are some people who may wish to only take part in the detox. In these situations, a detox center will be more appropriate than a rehab center. Unfortunately, there are no detox centers in Bainbridge Island, WA.

With that said, there are detox centers in Washington State. If you’re interested in a detox only plan, you can contact them. In many cases, health insurance plans will cover the travel costs involved with getting to the detox centers. This can help to substantially lower your costs.

Also, many rehab centers do offer detox only programs. All you have to do is ask. With these programs, you’ll only be at the facility for detox. You won’t take part in counseling, behavioral therapy or other types of addiction treatment services.

Medical Detox

The Different Types of Detox Programs

Drug and alcohol detox can be done in a few different ways. You can generally choose between medical detox or holistic detox. Many detox programs will incorporate both of these options together, so patients get the best of both worlds. Let’s take a more in-depth look at the differences between medical detox and holistic detox.

Medical detox involves using medications to lessen the severity of the withdrawal symptoms. These medications normalize brain chemistry levels. Depending on the type of addiction, addiction specialists may prescribe FDA-approved medications or medications that treat specific symptoms.

For example, prescription drugs, like methadone or acamprosate, are FDA-approved medications that treat addiction as a whole. Sleeping pills, on the other hand, treat insomnia and help those who have difficulties sleeping finally get a good night’s rest.

Some of these medications can often cause addictions of their own. Many medications used in Opiate Replacement Therapy (ORT) come with a potential for abuse. It’s vital for patients to be under medical supervision while using these medications to ensure that they don’t develop a secondary addiction. Patients will also need to be slowly weaned off of these medications to avoid withdrawal symptoms.

Holistic drug and alcohol detox uses natural ways to wean a patient off of substances. Patients will usually go cold turkey when going through this type of detox process. Holistic detox programs will use methods like improving one’s diet to help with the detox.

This type of detox program may not always be effective. It also may not always be available depending on the type of addiction that a person has. Those who are more likely to experience life-threatening withdrawal symptoms will need to take medications to normalize the chemistry levels in their body.

With that said, those who opt for medical detoxification can also incorporate holistic detox processes into their treatment plan. There’s absolutely no harm in doing so. After all, holistic detox plans simply focus on strengthening the body, and making patients healthier.

Bainbridge Island Addiction Information

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is one of the very first 12 step programs started. This program was founded in 1935 by two recovering alcoholics. It follows twelve steps and principles that aid in recovery.

With heavy drinking still on the rise, it's no wonder why AA meetings are becoming so popular. More and more people are struggling with alcoholism and need help. AA is the perfect place to go to get the support that is needed. Members lend a sympathetic ear at both open and closed meetings. Closed meetings offer a more intimate and personal environment, as it is only open to recovering alcoholics.

Alcoholics Anonymous

AA meetings will vary in the type of discussion that members have. There are daily reflections for reflecting on one's behavior, and also speaker discussions, book studies and step studies. Step studies are particularly useful for those who are just beginning their journey to recovery.

There are quite a few AA meetings in Bainbridge Island, WA. It should be fairly easy to find one that fits your schedule and timetable. Try to go to at least one meeting every week. If you've just started on your recovery, you may need extra support to stay motivated and disciplined. In these cases, you may want to go to more than one meeting a week.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA)

As AA one caters to recovering alcoholics, recovering drug abusers came together to create Narcotics Anonymous (NA) in 1935. This 12 step program follows the same twelve principles and steps as AA. The only real difference is that the topics cover drug-related issues rather than alcohol-related issues. NA meetings welcome anyone who has a problem with drugs. Anyone with a drug addiction can join, as long as he or she wants to get sober.

Narcotics Anonymous

There's a science behind the 12 steps of NA that makes this program so effective. At the meetings, members will explore and learn about each step during step studies. They'll also discuss drug-related topics during speaker discussions, and reflect on their behaviors and actions during the daily reflections.

NA meetings are free to join. There are no obligations to joining. These meetings simply offer a safe and private place for recovering addicts to get the support they need.

Bainbridge Island is part of the West Puget Sound Area. At the moment, there are no NA meetings held in Bainbridge Island. The closest meetings can be found in either Bremerton or Kingston. Meetings in Kingston are the closest to Bainbridge, as they are only about a 30-minute drive away.

Check the West Puget Sound Area Narcotics Anonymous page for any changes to meeting times and locations. You can also consider starting your own NA meetings.

Al-Anon and Alateen

Al-Anon and Alateen meetings are not for addicts, but their loved ones. Addiction doesn't only affect the addict. There's a good chance that people around the addict are also suffering from the consequences of the addiction. Many family members and friends will waste a copious amount of time trying to help the addict. Some may even blame themselves for the addict's actions.

Living with an addict can be very hard and difficult. Those with an addicted family member should really consider reaching out for support and help. Many people may feel uncomfortable expressing themselves to their friends. This is where Al-Anon and Alateen meetings come in handy. All members have an addict in their lives.

Al-Anon and Alateen

Al-Anon is for anyone who has an addict in his or her life. The addict can be a family member, friend or coworker. Alateen is a bit different. It's a support group designed for teenagers who have an addicted parent. It doesn't matter what type of substances the addict chooses.

Both of these meetings teach members how to live fulfilling and happy lives despite the addict's actions. It's important to know that you're not to blame.

These meetings also give loved ones an opportunity to vent and share their feelings. It's a great place to get your feelings and worries off your chest.

At this current time, there is not enough community participation in Bainbridge Island, WA to sustain a dedicated Alateen meeting. Teenagers with a parent struggling with addiction are welcome to attend regular Al-Anon meetings. In general, Al-Anon meetings are about 1.5 hours long.

Fortunately, there are quite a few Al-Anon meetings in Bainbridge Island, WA. Check out the calendar below for more meeting times and locations. Meetings marked with an (O) are open meetings, and meetings marked with a (C) are closed meetings. Closed meetings are only open to those whose lives have been affected by someone else's drinking. It's not for students or observers.

Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART)

Although there's a lot of evidence that the 12 step program can be effective, it's not for everyone. Some people may prefer science-based meetings instead. Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART) meetings are very becoming increasingly popular. These meetings rely on a 4-point program.

SMART meetings are for anyone who struggles with an addiction. Members may be addicted to just about anything, from alcohol to drugs to gambling to sex.

These meetings tend to be more educational in nature. They teach a lot of skills and techniques that are similar to the ones used in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). These support groups teach members how to:

  • Live a fulfilling and healthy life
  • Cope with urges and cravings
  • Maintain and, even, build motivation
  • Deal with negative thoughts and behaviors
  • Live a balanced life

SMART meetings teach self-empowerment and self-reliance. Their main goal is to equip recovering addicts with the tools and techniques needed for self-directed change. These meetings also advocate the proper use of psychological treatments and prescribed medications. The strategies and beliefs evolve with scientific knowledge of addiction recovery.

Unfortunately, there are no SMART meetings in Bainbridge Island at this time. However, there are many additional meetings available within a 15-mile radius. Those who can’t make it to an in-person meeting can always participate in the online meetings.
