SMART Recovery Meetings
SMART Recovery is a popular alternative to AA and NA. Much like these other programs, SMART holds free, daily meetings in cities all over the country.
Unlike the Anonymous programs, however, SMART does not use the Twelve Steps as its model.
Why?
Well, the Twelve Steps don’t work for everyone. They work for a lot of people. But, many people are turned off by the spiritual and semi-religious language of the Steps. Some addicts avoid treatment because they are skeptical about the way these programs operate.
Luckily, SMART offers a secular alternative. Addicts who don’t want to work the Steps should try this program instead.
