Since the year 2000, Marion County has been considered a high-intensity drug trafficking area by the US Drug Enforcement Agency.
According to Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada, the County is “the heart of the methamphetamine epidemic”.
And, while the crystal meth crisis has dissolved a bit, the region continues to experience a severe drug problem. In 2017 alone, there were more than 300 drug overdose deaths in Keizer and surrounding towns.
So, it’s clear that the County has quite an addiction problem on its hands. In order to decrease the number of deaths that occur here each year, addicts need to get help.
We’ve compiled a few resource lists below. It’s our intention to connect addicts with support groups that can offer them the assistance they need to get sober.

The group holds regular meetings in Keizer and nearly every other city around the United States. Meetings take place every day in churches, community centers, schools, and other facilities.
In these sessions, addicts convene to discuss how drugs have impacted their lives and why they’ve decided to get sober. Members offer advice, share stories, and encourage one another to stay clean. Some attendees have been sober for decades while others have been drug-free for just a few hours.
The organization welcomes addicts of all types: cocaine addicts, heroin addicts, prescription drug addicts, crystal meth addicts, etc. No matter what your drug of choice is or what kind of mistakes you’ve made, the group will be happy to see you.

For some people, AA and NA are sufficient resources in helping them get sober. But, it’s not that easy for everyone.
Oftentimes, drug addicts and alcoholics must go through intensive treatment in order to get sober.
There are two main forms of treatment:
Detox is the process in which an addict clears all drugs out of their system. This occurs whenever an addict stops using their drug of choice. The substance exits their body through bodily fluids like sweat, urine, and vomit.
Obviously, this process occurs whether an addict checks into a professional facility or not. But, because withdrawal symptoms are often painful, many addicts choose to go through the process in a professional detox facility.
Doing so can help to ease side effects and prevent the addict from relapsing before they’ve detoxed.
