Support Groups and Recovery Meetings in Colville, Washington

While detox or rehab are great places to start out, they must be supplemented in order for you to continue making progress. There is no cure for drug addiction or alcoholism, and it is an ongoing process to maintain sobriety. Help and support along the way are key to ensuring that gains made are not lost over time.

Outpatient meetings and support groups are the number one way to find that continuing assistance. While friends and family members play a key role, it is usually helpful to find like-minded souls that understand what you are experiencing.

The most common types of meetings revolve around a 12-step program, like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. Other programs exist that take a different, more scientific approach. There are even plenty of resources available to friends and family members of alcoholics and drug addicts.

Since the mid-1930s, Alcoholics Anonymous has been the benchmark of all outpatient resources dealing with alcohol addiction. Groups around the world consisting of fellow alcoholics gather together to share their stories, and provide a helping hand for anyone that needs it. Success stories in the millions exist to show just how useful the 12-step program AA offers truly is.

There are a healthy amount of AA meetings found in Colville and throughout Stevens County. Many of these may offer extras helpful for different situations. With a little bit of effort, finding the meeting perfect for you should be simple.

If you have a friend or loved one with an addiction to alcohol, you likely understand how difficult life can be at times. Constantly trying to balance your own life with the needs of your afflicted loved one can be extremely difficult on your own. Sometimes a helping hand or supportive ear is needed to keep yourself from sliding off a healthy path.

Al-Anon is an organization whose sole purpose is to help this fragile and vulnerable group of people. Meetings similar to those found at AA or NA provide the right atmosphere for struggling loved ones to open up about the challenges they also face. There are two Al-Anon meetings located directly in Colville.

Battling a drug addiction is best done with family and friends there to assist. These loved ones need to understand how best they can help, without sacrificing their own health and life. Many times, this can be confusing on your own. Outside help from other friends and family of addicts can be just what is needed to avoid making costly mistakes.

Nar Anon is based on the 12 steps offered by NA to addicts. Not only does this provide immensely-helpful assistance on its own, it gives insight into what addicts need to do to stay on track themselves. While there are no Nar Anon meetings right in Colville, there are several that are within reasonable driving distance.

Alateen is similar to Al-Anon and Nar Anon, but geared towards teens and young adults. A childhood lived around alcoholics or drug addicts is especially trying, and can send young folks over the edge if not careful. Alateen provides a safe and friendly space that helps them open up without feeling embarrassed or self conscious.

Unfortunately, there are no Alateen meetings in Colville or the immediate area. The closest would be a little over 170 miles away in Darrington.

Perhaps a 12-step program is not right for you. You may have visited one of these programs, and found that the approach is different than what seems to fit with your own personal views. 12-step programs are faith-based, which may not gel completely with each person's belief system. No matter how good a program is, it is only as effective as the true investment a person can put into it.

SMART is a program based on science rather than faith. SMART consists of 4 steps, each designed for a specific area dealing with cravings and addictive behavior. Regardless of the addiction, SMART provides meaningful tools designed to show clear results. Due to the relative newness of SMART, the closest meeting lies over 100 miles away. If you would rather not drive that far, online resources are also available.
