Drug and alcohol addiction recovery resources are available in Idaho for those who need them. People who suffer from substance abuse problems often do not realize the type of help that is there. That means that they tend to continue to struggle without even attempting to get help.
Perhaps that is the situation you are facing right now. You feel stuck in your addiction; like there is no way out. We want you to know that this is not the truth. There are many organizations in Idaho that are there to assist you. Whether you would benefit from Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous or other types of help, you do not have to continue on this path.

AA meetings are held once a week, and they last for around an hour each time. Members don’t need to pay anything in order to come or participate in the meetings. There are no dues or fees. All that is required is for people to have a desire to stop drinking.
Anyone can attend an open AA meeting. If you find some that are closed, that means that you have to be an alcoholic to attend. Otherwise, you are free to bring a friend or family member with you to help you feel more comfortable.
It’s OK to feel nervous before attending your first AA meeting, and most people are. This is a new experience for you, and it’s understandable if you feel uneasy about it. You will likely be put right at ease from the moment you walk through the door. They won’t make you feel out of place at all, and many people will probably introduce themselves to you.
AA meetings are all very different from each other. Some might be discussions, whereas others may be focused on different topics. There are some meetings that have special speakers, and there may be times when you celebrate birthdays or other important occasions.
You will probably find that the people you meet in AA soon begin to feel more like family. You’ll grow to trust them and respect them, and you will probably make a lot of new friends.
There are many AA meetings in or around the Star area. You won’t need to go far to find one taking place near where you live. The following is a helpful list to guide you on your search for the right meeting.

Narcotics Anonymous was started a few decades after AA. It was essentially meant to be a program targeted toward people who were battling drug addiction. The reality is that anyone can go to an NA meeting; even if they are an alcoholic. In fact, a lot of alcoholics prefer NA to AA for various reasons.
An NA meeting usually lasts for about an hour to an hour and a half. They are located in most cities all over the country, and the organization has helped many people. Like AA, you don’t have to pay anything to join. All you need to have is a desire to stop using drugs.
There are both open and closed NA meetings. Anyone can attend an open meeting, which means a lot of people bring close friends or family members for support. This is something you may want to consider doing if you’re feeling nervous about attending.
You won’t have to worry about being pressured to talk in front of the group if you don’t want to. No one is going to call you out, or make you share your story your first time there. If you want to sit and listen, that’s perfectly fine.
NA meetings are pretty low-key and relaxed. You may find both large and small groups, so you can choose based on your preference. They usually work through the 12 Steps of Recovery, but there could be other topics that are discussed as well.
There are several NA meetings in Star area, as well as in the surrounding cities. You can easily find one that will work for your schedule. This is a list that can help you with locating the right one for you.

For young people, it’s often hard to connect with adults and explain what you’re going through when a loved one is an addict. They usually find it much easier to talk with each other, and Alateen makes that possible.
Alateen has been set up to provide support to teens, young adults and older children. Like Al-Anon, they meeting on a weekly basis.
There are currently no Alateen meetings in the Ada County area. However, teens are always welcome to come to any Al-Anon meeting. There are no age restrictions.
Teenagers can also check out Alateen chat meetings online. They occur several days during the week, at different times. These are moderated meetings, and the website must be accessed from a computer. It can be a great source of support.
At this time, you may not feel comfortable attending a support group and meeting new people. If that’s how you feel, we completely understand. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek out other types of help for your addiction.

Anyone with a drug addiction is at risk for an overdose. But there are certain circumstances where overdosing on a drug is more likely. For instance, someone could be at a higher risk for an overdose if they are using a drug for the first time. They may misjudge how much to use, and take the wrong amount.
The most common way that people overdose is after they have experienced a relapse. So many people attempt to quit using on their own, without any type of professional support. When they do, it is very likely that they will go back to using again. They may not realize that changing tolerance levels mean that they don’t need to take as much to get high. As a result, they take a larger dose than their bodies can handle, and the result is an overdose.
Many celebrities have overdosed on drugs, and it is something that happens every day in our country. The best way to avoid it is to stop using and get professional help.
There is also a high risk of alcohol poisoning for someone who is an alcoholic. This can happen for a number of different reasons. It is common for people with drinking problems to not realize how much they are consuming. If they have other drugs in their systems, the risk is even greater.
When someone drinks and uses other drugs, they may not realize how drunk they really are. People commonly use stimulants – such as cocaine – along with alcohol. To compensate for that feeling of awareness, they will drink more, and the result can be alcohol poisoning.
If you suspect that a loved one has overdosed on drugs, or has alcohol poisoning, you need to act quickly. They need to get immediate medical attention, and they may even need to be treated at the scene. It’s best for you not to try to get them to the hospital yourself.
Call 911 right away and let the operator know that you think your friend or family member has overdosed on drugs or alcohol. They will get the paramedics to your location right away and give them the help they need. If you act quickly enough, you may just save their life.
For many people, attending a support group or outpatient treatment simply isn’t enough. It may help for a little while, but relapses are often quite common.
You may find that you need to consider professional treatment for your addiction to drugs or alcohol. If you do, there’s no need for you to feel ashamed. Every year, many people attend drug and alcohol rehabs because they know they need to get help. It’s actually a very courageous thing to do.
If you suffer from a severe addiction, you’ve tried to quit before and relapsed, or you want to quit, but feel you can’t, you may need addiction treatment. They will be able to help you reach your goals so that you can enjoy long-term recovery.
