Boise, Idaho Addiction Recovery and Mental Health Resource Guide

Addiction recovery and mental health resources are plentiful in Boise, Idaho. But there are a lot of people who do not know where to turn for help and support either from peers or from professionals. It is not uncommon for people to simply continue to use because they do not know any other option.

Programs like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous have changed the lives of millions of people all over the world. These are 12-Step programs that are led by others in recovery. They provide peer support, which research says is essential for a positive long-term outcome. Addiction treatment is also very important, and today, there are so many options available for people to get help online as well as offline.

We have created this page to inform Boise residents of the many recovery options, including online addiction treatment options, available to them.

Steps to Take for Rehab in Boise

There are so many alcohol and drug addiction recovery resources in Boise, Idaho to help people stop using. It doesn’t matter what type of substance abuse problem you are suffering from. There are 12-Step groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous that have made a big difference for a lot of people. Before any of that though, it’s important to go through the first steps. Drug and alcohol detox and rehab in Boise should be done as it’s an important fundamental part of the process.

Recovering from an addiction is hard, and it is not something anyone should attempt on their own. Far too many people try to stop using without getting support, which is extremely dangerous. It puts them at a high risk for relapse, and they can easily end up caught in the cycle of addiction.

That is why we wanted to provide residents of Idaho with this addiction recovery guide. There are many detox and rehab resources available in Boise, and while we are not affiliated with these programs, we can vouch for their effectiveness. We have compiled an extensive list of resources for all areas in Idaho, including Boise.

Alcohol & Drug Detox in Boise

Detox for drug and alcohol addiction is the first step we recommend. It is the process of ridding the body of toxins by abstaining from the use of substances. When you stop using a substance your mind and body became used to, it causes withdrawal symptoms. This is why a supervised professional detox is advised.

The withdrawal phase lasts for up to a week and when you’re detoxing at home, this can cause relapse. The physical challenges of getting past detox on your own are usually too much to bare. Through professional detox, you’re fully supported and given medications or nutritional supplementation to ease the discomfort.

There are 3 professional detox options in Boise. They are inpatient centers so you will stay there during the detox phase. These centers are also inpatient rehab centers in Boise so you can transition from detox right onto rehab without interruption. There is one hospital in Boise that aids in detox. It is an outpatient detox program so you’d still have to go home after getting support and daily medication.

There are two different types of detox, holistic or medical. What you’re addicted to, how intense it is, and how long you’ve been abusing are all factors in what kind of detox you’ll need. You’ll go through an assessment to ensure you get the best type of detox.

What To Do In Case of An Overdose or Alcohol Poisoning in Boise

It may be you who is going through a drug overdose or alcohol poisoning. If this is the case, let someone know that you suspect you’re in trouble immediately. If you’re alone, call someone and let them know what you’ve taken. Preferably call 911 so you can medical attention immediately. If there are others around, let them know how you’re feeling and any symptoms you’re experiencing. If you do lose consciousness, it becomes much harder to treat overdose or alcohol poisoning.

It’s not always easy to know what the person has used. Many drug overdoses have similar side effects. There are stimulants drugs like cocaine that could cause a heart attack or the person’s temperature could rise to dangerous levels. Then there’s depressants, which are usually more likely in an overdose. Drugs like heroin suppress breathing and can cause the heart to stop completely. Here are some of the common symptoms of a drug overdose:

  • They appear sleepy.
  • They don’t respond when you try to wake them up.
  • Their breath is slow or they have stopped breathing.
  • Their nails and lips may have gone blue.
  • Their skin is clammy.
  • Their pupils are very small.
  • They may make choking or gurgling sounds.
  • They may be very hyperactive followed by fatigue.
  • They may sweat profusely.
  • They lose coordination.

When you get in touch with an emergency responder, answer their questions as best as you can. Let them know the location of where you’re at. If you’re not sure what the person has overdosed on, look around the area to see if there is any paraphernalia that could indicate what substance was used.

Alcohol poisoning is usually a negative effect from binge drinking. If you consume more alcohol than your liver can process, the alcohol remains in your blood. This is when alcohol becomes a poison to your body. If you’re with someone you suspect has overdosed or has alcohol poisoning, call 911 right away. Stay with the person and see if you can get them conscious. If they are unconscious, roll them over on their side. If they are on their back and start vomiting, they could choke on it, which is extremely dangerous.

Alcohol poisoning is usually more obvious. You can smell the alcohol on someone when they’ve consumed a high amount. There are a few tell tale symptoms too. They include:

  • The person will be extremely drowsy.
  • Their words will be slurred.
  • If they try to walk, they will usually stumble.
  • The person may be unresponsive.
  • They may be confused and disoriented.
  • Their breath may be shallow.
  • They may pass out, which could potentially lead to a coma.

Alcohol is dangerous when too much has been ingested. Like heroin, it can slow the person’s heart rate and is a life-threatening emergency.. Call 911 immediately in this situation as well.

Both drug and alcohol rehab and detox are offered at Northpoint Recovery. This is an inpatient facility, and the care patients receive is seamless as they move from one phase to another.

In a word, yes, it is possible to attend rehab online. But please note that anyone who is in need of detox services will need to go through an inpatient program. This is because detoxing carries a lot of risks, and there could be complications that arise as a result. It is important for people to be in a professional setting where they can get the help and support they need.

But for those who only need rehabilitation services, it is possible to attend rehab online. Many programs have set up teleconferencing by using various computer programs to help them connect with their patients. It is possible to complete both individual and group therapy sessions with this type of technology.

At Northpoint Recovery, we provide an option for online rehab for our patients, if they need it. We use telehealth, which allows our therapists to meet with their patients virtually. Group therapy is another option that we may recommend as well.

At Northpoint Recovery, we have a network of insurance companies we work with. Our services are premium quality where we offer various activities, nutritious meals, and professional therapy. These services are highly effective but are often out of people’s price range. This is why your insurance coverage is so valuable. Here is a list of the main carriers we work with:

  • Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
  • United Healthcare
  • Humana
  • Aetna
  • Multiplan
  • Optum
  • AmeriHealth
  • Cigna
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • TUFTS Health Plan
  • Oxford Health Plans

If your insurance company isn’t on this list, that doesn’t mean they won’t cover our program. To be sure, verify your insurance quickly and easily here.

It may ease any tension you feel about coming to rehab.

The reality is that not everyone has health insurance, and some people simply cannot afford it. Anyone who is interested in learning more about possible health insurance options should go to HealthCare.gov to get more information.

But if health insurance is not a possibility at all, it helps to have ideas about how to pay for rehab. These individuals may want to consider any of the following:

  • Visiting their local Department of Social Services to ask about programs that might be able to help.
  • Talking with a close friend or relative about giving them a loan to help cover the costs of treatment.
  • Taking out a personal loan to help pay for rehab.
  • Starting an online funding campaign to allow them to ask friends and family to contribute to the costs of rehab.
  • Charging their rehab stay to a credit card.
  • Discussing the possibility of in-house financing with the addiction treatment facility of choice.

At Northpoint Recovery, we understand that financial challenges are very real. We are here to help people find ways to cover the cost of both detox and rehab so they can experience recovery.

In addition to participating with multiple insurance companies, we also accept Cobra.
