Seattle Washington Drug & Alcohol Rehab, Detox & Treatment Resources

Washington State has not avoided the opioid overdose crisis. There are many drug problems that the state and the cities within it are dealing with individually. They also share the burden of a nation in the middle of a major problem with substances. That’s why there has been so much effort put into drug and alcohol rehab, detox, and treatment resources. You have to want it for yourself though.

There are many tragic statistics such as overdoses have become the number one cause of accidental death. Doctors prescribe opioids more every year which is causing more people to become addicted. When they turn to using on the streets, which more people are doing all the time, they may unknowingly use fentanyl. Fentanyl, along with oxycodone has caused an increase of opioid deaths in recent years.

Illicit use of prescription drugs like Oxycontin and the abuse of illegal drugs such as heroin, cocaine and methamphetamines rage across America among people of all backgrounds. Excessive use of beer, wine, vodka and other alcoholic beverages can spin out of control and devastate lives.

drug overdose causes

As for the kind of support and help you can expect, there are doctors, counselors and clinics where you can receive treatment. You can get treatment for addiction in Seattle. Alternatively, you can get away from it all and get treatment in a different city or state.

When drugs and alcohol are abused, it becomes a disease we know as addiction. The condition is treatable. When you are trying to recover from this illness, you don’t have to do it alone. It can be a long, hard road. There are people ready to help you though. Whether you’re looking for Seattle detox or rehab, you can find the help you need. This guide has been put together to offer you all the Seattle addiction recovery options available.

Even the “nicest” and most successful people can become addicted to drugs or alcohol. Most never dreamed that their use could result in an addiction that controls their life. In fact, the use of illicit and prescription drugs is so prevalent in the U.S. that in 2012, drug overdose caused more accidental deaths than motor vehicle accidents for people 25 to 64 years old. (Source: Centers for Disease Control).

Seattle, Washington, as anyone who has been there knows, is a culturally diverse city, gracefully poised among sparkling waters and surrounded by forests and snow-capped mountains. There are few cities that can rival its beauty. As the largest city in the state of Washington, it also has its problems. Substance abuse and alcoholism take their toll on rich and poor alike. Although Washington has legalized the recreational use of marijuana, drugs like heroin, meth, ecstasy and cocaine, and excessive alcohol are a threat to public health and safety like anywhere else. If your family is affected by drugs or alcohol, Northpoint Recovery can guide you to the local support you need.

Getting addiction help that is designed for your needs is important. There are different components that make a full treatment plan successful. It should be created to meet your personal needs for the best opportunity for success. AA meetings in Seattle are an example of addiction support. They have found to be important in drug addiction rehab setting as well as long term maintenance. Support groups allow you to see you’re going through similar challenges to others. You don’t feel so alone in your struggles.

Group meetings within rehabilitation as well as one-on-one therapy will tap into your source of addiction. This could be any type of trauma such as violence, childhood pain, or a divorce. It helps you to heal from the past hurt you were trying to cover up. You may not even realize your trauma is where your addiction came from.

There are a few different types of addiction treatment available in Seattle. These include:

  • Outpatient addiction rehab
  • Inpatient addiction treatment
  • Drug detox or alcohol detox
  • Intensive outpatient addiction rehab

Drug detox is the first step towards addiction recovery in Seattle. This takes between 5-7 days and it’s recommended that you have supervision. This could be anything from a hospital setting if that’s available to conducting detox in an addiction clinic.

The next step is addiction treatment. This has a few options. Inpatient vs outpatient addiction treatment in Seattle depends on your personal needs. Both are effective and there is no one correct option for everyone.

With inpatient rehabilitation, you’ll be staying in a facility for usually 28 days. There are longer rehab options if necessary. What you can expect from residential treatment is daily therapy sessions. You will work with your group of people and will go through a few different kinds of therapy. You will be educated on your addiction, work through some emotions and understand what triggers you. You will also get nutrition education so you can take care of yourself better once you’re out of rehab. There is also downtime to reflect on your addiction and your journey.

With an outpatient rehab program, you’ll have some therapy sessions and get some support. You can stay at home, get some addiction help and keep up with your life obligations. Outpatient care probably isn’t going to meet the needs of a new addict trying to quit substances for the first time. They will likely need more assistance than just therapy sessions. That’s where the intensive outpatient treatment comes in. They will usually be a 12-week program and then you can begin with outpatient care. This can last for 12 weeks as well.

The best way to find out how much your health insurance company will pay for drug treatment is to verify your insurance. In order to understand your health insurance policy, we’ll need to talk with you about your addiction history and get an idea of what type of drug treatment you’ll need. Once we understand your needs, we’ll work with your health insurance provider for you, and we’ll maximize your benefits so that you don’t have to pay much out of your own pocket at all. Please know that every health insurance company is different, but this method has worked well for patients in the past, and many of them don’t have to pay anything out of pocket.

Of these drinkers, 10% will develop some form of alcoholism.

Alcohol Addiction in Seattle

Seattle has a lot of social events that warrant drinking such as concerts, fairs, and festivals. If you’re developing a problem with alcohol, it’s challenging to avoid triggers. Sometimes it takes leaving Seattle to reset your life. Once you’re back from rehabilitation, you’ll want to start maintenance. This is done with Alcoholics Anonymous primarily.

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is perhaps the best-known support group in the world. A fellowship of men and women all helping each other through their journey to get and stay sober, AA has spawned many subgroups to offer guidance and encouragement to family members as well. The 12 Steps taught by AA help people regain control of their lives, and reach and maintain sobriety. There are many options for AA meetings in Seattle and every neighborhood seems to have a few meetings available per week. To get the full list, please visit the AA Seattle Meetings site.

Drug Overdose in Seattle

As opioid-type overdoses can be quite common in Seattle, ambulance attendants carry Naloxone. This is the drug that counteracts an overdose. It may not always be easy to know what kind of drug someone has taken. Notice what is around the person. Is there paraphernalia that could give you a clue?

The most important thing to do when you suspect someone is overdosing from drugs is call 911. Tell them everything you know about the situation. You may opt to rush them to the hospital or have an ambulance pick them up.

Alcohol Poisoning in Seattle

Alcohol poisoning comes with quite obvious symptoms. It is hard to ignore there is a problem with someone who is over-the-top drunk. They are going to have a strong smell of alcohol on them. They will usually be moving around in an awkward way and incoherent. Alcohol depresses the central nervous system which slows down a person’s breathing.

Inpatient drug rehab

The heart might even stop completely. Breathing can become so slow that oxygen doesn’t make it to the brain. This can cause brain damage. Get help right away for someone you suspect has alcohol poisoning.

While it’s true that inpatient drug rehab is not the only option you have available to you for your addiction recovery, it’s usually the best option for most patients. During the earliest parts of your recovery journey, withdrawal can be very difficult. Some drugs cause worse withdrawal symptoms than other drugs, but almost everyone can benefit from going through drug detox services, and this is generally done on an inpatient basis.

During drug detox, you’ll be monitored closely for any serious medical complications that can arise once you stop taking certain drugs, including cocaine, heroin, prescription drugs or even alcohol. Drug detox minimizes the most common withdrawal symptoms that people usually experience, such as:

  • Chronic and severe headaches
  • Upset stomach with nausea and vomiting
  • Digestive issues such as diarrhea or constipation
  • Shakiness in the hands
  • Mental issues such as depression or anxiety

In addition to minimizing these and other common drug withdrawal symptoms, drug detox can also shorten their duration and help to protect you from more serious problems, such as heart palpitations or seizures.

In addition to allowing you to go through drug detox, inpatient drug rehab also gives you access to some of the best professionals in the drug treatment industry. These people have the experience that’s needed to help others through their recoveries, and they’ve helped countless others in the past. You can call upon them at any hour of the day when you’re in need of someone to talk to, or when you just don’t want to be by yourself. You’ll find that it’s so helpful to know that you’re not alone in your recovery, and it makes a big difference when you’re able to take some time away from your everyday stress to really focus on getting better.

While there are many people who will greatly benefit an inpatient program like what is offered at Northpoint recovery, there are some people who wouldn’t. There are people who would take great comfort in continuing on at their jobs while going through intensive outpatient recovery. Some people may not be willing to give everything up for a whole month to focus on their addiction.

It is important for all addicts to get help which is why there are many options available. If someone doesn’t have the money to go to an inpatient rehab, they will usually have the opportunity for an outpatient program. There are government funded programs that are free if you fit the profile. There are some addicts in Seattle who have not been involved with the substance for long or functional substance abusers who just need to “nip it in the bud”. These types of addicts may need outpatient treatment along with the 12-step group meetings.

With intensive outpatient programs, your insurance is more likely to completely or partially cover the costs. It’s also easier for you to maintain your life. For addicts that are confident they can walk a straight line, this might be their best option. Going to the therapy and counseling sessions a few times a week out of work hours can work. You have to make it work and be strong in your conviction. With an outpatient program, you have to be more responsible for your recovery and really want it.
