Addiction Rehab and Recovery Help in Kirkland, WA

Kirkland, Washington Drug and Alcohol Rehab Facilities and Addiction Recovery Options

There are several alcohol and drug rehab facilities in the Kirkland, WA area. But there are many ways to recover from an addiction, and other resources are available as well. Unfortunately, people often do not know where to turn to get the help they need to stop using.

ASupport groups are known to be essential during addiction recovery. Attending 12-Step meetings through Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous can be life-changing for alcoholics and addicts. Other types of support groups are available as well.

Families are often hit hard when someone they love suffers from alcoholism or a drug addiction. Al-Anon and Alateen are both available to provide them with support and encouragement. They can also learn valuable coping skills and how to avoid enabling behaviors.

We believe in the missions of these organizations, although we are not affiliated with them in any way. We would like to take this opportunity to discuss drug and alcohol treatment programs, as well as other addiction recovery resources in the Kirkland area.

Drug Abuse and Alcoholism Stats

Research published by the King County Department of Public Health tells us the following:

  • Methamphetamine is a big problem here. Over the past 10 years, meth-related deaths have increased from 18 to 136.
  • More young people are dying from overdoses than anyone else. Half of the people who died from an accidental overdose were younger than 46 years of age.
  • Prescription drug abuse is a problem, as well. The Department reports that most of these overdoses involved a mixture of opioids with other drugs.

It’s time we start bringing these numbers down. We believe that addicts should get the treatment and support they need. We’ve compiled a list of NA and AA meetings in Kirkland to help them get started.

Alcoholics Anonymous: Helping Kirkland Residents Overcome Alcohol Abuse

Washington State is currently facing a crisis. Many of our residents are suffering from alcohol abuse disorder. They’re drinking too much. They’re dying from alcohol poisoning. And they’re powerless over their addictions to booze.

Washington State is currently facing a crisis. Many of our residents are suffering from alcohol abuse disorder. They’re drinking too much. They’re dying from alcohol poisoning. And they’re powerless over their addictions to booze.

Here’s a closer look at alcoholism in WA and Kirkland:

  • Our state consistently has one of the highest drinking rates. In 2015, we ranked 14th on the list of drunkest states. The research estimated that our residents had around 57 drinks each month.
  • Kirkland, specifically, has a bad alcohol problem. The 2016 King County City Health Profile shows that 22% of city residents consume alcohol excessively. This is far higher than the average for Washington State.
  • Drunk driving seems to be a growing problem. From 2003 to 2012, nearly 2,000 Washington residents died in an alcohol-related car accident.
  • Washington residents are far more likely to die in a drunk driving accident than in other states.

Fortunately, there are a number of resources in the area that can help. If more addicts start utilizing these resources, we may see some happier stats in the future.

AA is the Support Network You Need

There are a few key steps to getting sober. You need to detox. You need to get the alcohol out of your system and work hard to keep it out. But you also need to find people that can help you stay sober.

12-step meetings are designed to help you find those people. We believe that the Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in Kirkland are some of the best resources for any addict living in the area.

At these meetings, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and speak with other people who are going through the same things you are. Some of them are newly sober just like you. Others have been sober for years and just want to see other alcoholics get clean.

“I listened to their stories and found so many areas where we overlapped—not all the deeds, but the feelings of remorse and hopelessness. I learned that alcoholism isn’t a sin, it’s a disease.” - Alcoholics Anonymous, The Big Book

These individuals meet regularly in cities all over the world. They gather in church basements, restaurants and community centers to offer each other support. They help one another to realize that living a sober life is possible.

No one should go through the process alone. There are people out there who want to help you.

Are you an alcoholic or just a casual drinker? Take one of our free online quizzes to get a clear answer:

Am I a Functional Alcoholic?

Am I Addicted to Alcohol?

Is My Family Member an Alcoholic?

Note: Some meetings are marked as “closed”. This means that only committed AA members can attend. First-timers are not usually allowed into these meetings. However, if you show that you’re committed to getting clean, the group will be happy to have you.

Our list not the most up-to-date schedule of meetings. If you’re looking for the most recent schedule, check out the official Western Washington AA website. They have a search engine that you can use to keep up with meeting times.

Each meeting is different. Some meetings are small and intimate with people sitting in a circle. Others are large, lively events that occupy entire cafeterias. Some meetings are a bit subdued and emotional while others are joyous and filled with laughter.

Whatever the environment, you’ll find that all AA meetings in Kirkland are warm and welcoming. The members of Alcoholics Anonymous just want to see people turn their lives around.

“By keeping alcohol out of their systems, newcomers take care of one part of their illness—their bodies have a chance to get well…If they are going to stay sober, they need healthy minds and healthy emotions, too.” - Alcoholics Anonymous, A Brief Guide to AA

The organization is founded around the idea of empathy and compassion. So, no one needs to worry about feeling judged at a meeting. Everyone in attendance is there because they’ve made poor choices while drunk and they want a second chance at life.

As the organization says in their Brief Guide to Alcoholics Anonymous, “Through the example and friendship of the recovered alcoholics in AA, new members are encouraged to stay away from a drink ‘one day at a time’.”

Narcotics Anonymous Meetings in or around the Kirkland area

Whereas Alcoholics Anonymous was developed to help alcoholics get sober, Narcotics Anonymous does the same for drug addicts. People who feel like they’ve lost power over their drug habit are invited to join the group for support. Similar to AA, this organization is built around a 12-step program. These meetings are free as well.

As the group’s name suggests, it caters specifically to narcotics addicts. Anyone who is addicted to mind-altering substances is welcome to join. This means that people who use heroin, prescription opioids, cocaine, meth or any other drug can benefit from these meetings. There are even marijuana addicts who attend meetings.

“After coming to NA we realized we were sick people. We suffered from a disease from which there is no known cure. It can, however, be arrested at some point and recovery is then possible.” - Narcotics Anonymous, The NA White Booklet

The NA community in Kirkland is a tight-knit network of support for local addicts. These individuals hold meetings in the area every night of the week. You’re welcomed to join as many or as few meetings as you like. Help is always there.

What to Do in Case of an Overdose

If you or someone else overdose, get help as soon as possible. Most overdose victims die because they don’t receive treatment fast enough. By calling for help or heading to the ER, you can prevent the problem from getting worse.

When the person is unconscious or not responding, call 911.

If the individual is mobile, bring them to the ER. There are several hospitals in Kirkland that treat drug overdoses and alcohol poisoning.

Support for Families: Kirkland Al-Anon Meetings

Addiction affects far more people than the addicts themselves. There are millions of parents, children, siblings, and friends living in America whose lives have been severely impacted by someone else’s addiction.

Oftentimes, these people need support too. They need to meet other individuals who are in the same situation.

Al-Anon was created for this very purpose. This program provides a place for people to gather and discuss how their life has been chances by someone else’s habit. The group shares their stories, discusses their progress and strives to help one another cope with the problem. Some attendees have lost their loved ones to addiction. Others are afraid of losing them.

“Inner peace comes from accepting yourself and what’s happening as it is right now without trying to control or change it.” - Al-Anon

At the heart of this program is a desire to let go of certain feelings. The guilt, shame, and helplessness that come with addiction are all emotions that the group strives to overcome.

It’s difficult, but those who go to meetings in Kirkland find that the program helps them to find peace. They accept the things they can’t change and turn their focus toward being the best person they can be.

Drug and Alcohol Rehab Programs in the Kirkland Area

For many, the best approach to addiction recovery is to attend a quality alcohol and drug treatment program. Recovering from a substance abuse problem can be incredibly difficult. A personalized approach to treating it can have so many benefits.

Alcohol and Drug Detox in Kirkland

The first step in recovering from an addiction is often going through drug and alcohol detox. This is a type of treatment that helps the body get rid of toxins that are related to the substance abuse. It can drastically reduce the severity of withdrawal and give people a better chance at recovering long-term.

There are two detox facilities in the City of Kirkland itself, according to the SAMHSA treatment locator. There is one additional program that offers detox, but it is an outpatient program. All of these are located less than five miles from the city.

There is only one hospital in Kirkland that offers detoxification services. But most people would rather attend a private drug or alcohol treatment program to detox. There are several reasons for this.

Hospitals do offer the best medical services, but the staff may not always make the appropriate referrals to detox. Also, they tend to miss the social aspect of recovering, which is vitally important.

Going to Alcohol Rehab in Kirkland

Alcohol rehab is an essential part of the recovery process. So many people are completely unaware of why they started drinking in the first place. Because of this, they think that as long as they stop, they should be in the clear. That is not necessarily true.

A quality alcohol rehabilitation center will offer treatment for co-occurring behaviors, which are often to blame for alcoholism. They also surround the individual with the support they need to be successful.

There are four professional alcoholism treatment facilities in the City of Kirkland. Additional options are found outside the city, with a total of 14 within five miles of it.

Kirkland Area Drug Rehab Facilities

For someone with a drug addiction, going to rehab is critical. There, they have the opportunity to participate in many different types of therapy. This helps them understand why they started using drugs in the first place.

The best drug rehabilitation program offers patients the tools they need to avoid relapsing. It can also prepare them for how to live their lives without being dependent upon substances.

There are a total of 14 different facilities that offer professional drug rehab in the Kirkland area. There are four of them directly in the city.

Our Inpatient Addiction Treatment Program at Northpoint Recovery

At Northpoint Recovery, we offer a 28-day program that incorporates both detox and rehab services. We treat all kinds of addictions, and we do so with a personalized approach. That way, our patients know that their treatment plan has been targeted to meet their unique needs.

We accept many different health insurance plans to minimize the costs for our patients. It is our goal to help as many people as possible to recover from their addictions.

It’s a shame to see so many lives ruined by drugs and alcohol. The overdose rates and alcohol poisoning numbers don’t have to be so high. If more addicts take advantage of the resources available to them, we may be able to save some lives.
