The organization provides support groups for people who are looking for peer assistance to help themselves stay off drugs.
NA utilizes the 12 Principles of Recovery, which are very much like the 12 Steps of AA. Members attend meetings on a weekly basis, and they last for about an hour at a time. Anyone with any type of addiction is welcome to attend an NA meeting, and the only requirement is to have a desire to stop using.
Fortunately, there are several NA meetings in the Orchard area. This makes it so convenient to find one that will work with everyone’s schedule.

Alcoholics Anonymous was the first 12-Step meeting of its kind. It was founded in 1935, and the two men that started the organizations were both alcoholics themselves. They believed that a group of peers who all faced the same circumstances could be an excellent tool to help each other get and stay sober.
The first AA meeting only involved the two of them, but since that time, the organization has grown dramatically. Today, there are AA meetings being held all over the world. Just like NA, the only requirement for membership is to have a desire to stop drinking.

Alateen is a part of the Al-Anon organization. The only difference is that they focus solely on providing support for teens and young adults. Some meetings may also allow older children to attend as well.
Teenagers and young people can often become isolated when they know a loved one is battling an addiction. They may not feel comfortable to confide in their friends, and as a result, they feel like they have no one to turn to. Alateen gives them the outlet they so desperately need.

Teenagers are welcome to register to attend online Alateen meetings. Also, anyone is welcome to come to an Al-Anon meeting, regardless of how old they are.
Even though 12-Step problems can be very effective, some people prefer a different approach. SMART Recovery offers them an alternative, and the methods they use are built around a 4-Point Program. The 4 Points are:
SMART Recovery offers support groups all over the world for those who have a desire for peer support. Participants are able to work together to empower one another to make drastic changes in their lives. It is a great program, and it has helped many people.

Finally, it may be a good idea to consider going to an inpatient treatment program. Even though outpatient care can provide a lot of support, the reality is that it often is not enough. This is especially true for someone who is new to recovery.
There are so many benefits to going to an inpatient drug or alcohol treatment center. Some of them include:
Drug and alcohol detox is a necessity for many types of addictions. For instance, someone who is addicted to alcohol, stimulants, benzodiazepines or opiates/opioids may be required to detox. For a lot of people, this is the first step they take when they stop using.
Detox can be done in a number of different ways. Some people can greatly benefit from going through a medical detox program. This will allow them to take medications to help with withdrawal and reduce the risk of complications. Most experts agree that holistic treatment should also be prescribed. These may include dietary changes and new exercise regimens.
After the detoxification period is over, patients are ready to move on to drug and alcohol rehab. During this time, they will begin to work on the psychological part of the addiction.
Individual therapy sessions are a vital part of the recovery process. Patients will meet with their therapist regularly to talk about what led to their substance abuse. They will also participate in group therapy and other forms of treatment during this time.
It is essential to find out what led to the addiction. For many patients, the cause is a co-occurring disorder that must be treated in order for recovery to take place. They can receive that treatment during their rehab stay, which should last about 28 days.
As we mentioned earlier, alcohol and drug detox is one of the most important parts of recovery, in many cases. Some people suffer from addictions to drugs that require that they go through the detoxification process. For these individuals, this step should not be skipped.
Detoxing can help people be successful in recovery long-term. It treats withdrawal symptoms and can often help addicts and alcoholics avoid potential complications while they are recovering.
