Information on Narcotics Anonymous

About 20 years after AA was founded, another group was founded for a similar purpose. It was painfully clear that people with drug addictions had no way of getting support and help. They were not able to attend Alcoholics Anonymous, but they lacked a support group of their own. As a result, Narcotics Anonymous was created.

These two organizations are very similar, but many alcoholics actually prefer NA for a number of reasons. Some feel that they are more friendly and less formal than AA. Others just feel more comfortable there.

A lot of drug addicts credit NA for providing them with the support they needed to stop using. Members only need to have a desire to stop abusing drugs. They do not have to pay membership fees to attend.

Your First NA Meeting

NA meetings are very laid back and relaxed. There are all different sizes, and some are big while others are smaller in size. They focus on a variety of different subjects, and some may feature special speakers.

For your first NA meeting, you are likely to feel a bit nervous, but you do not need to be. The other participants will be friendly to you because they remember what it was like to walk through those doors for the first time. No one will put you on the spot or make you feel uncomfortable.
