Most people refer to Alcoholics Anonymous by saying AA. It is an organization that got its beginnings in the mid 1930s. Two men founded it with the belief that alcoholics needed a place to find support for recovery. At the start, it was just the two of them meeting in Akron, Ohio. It was not long before it grew, and now, there are meetings in almost every city in the United States. What is even more impressive is that AA can be found in many countries all over the world.
The organization is self-sustaining. They never ask for any fees or dues from their members. The only requirement is to have a desire to stop drinking. Participants attend meetings on a weekly basis, although there are some people who go more frequently.
Your first AA meeting will be a very eye-opening experience. You may be surprised at the different types of people you see there. There are people from all walks of life. You may see professionals from your community, as well as blue-collar workers and parents. You may even see some people you know, but never realized they had drinking problems.
There is no need for you to be nervous when you go to your first AA meeting. Everyone there understands what it was like to walk into a meeting for the first time. They will make you feel comfortable and welcomed. You may make some new friends and you will find that everyone is very eager to help one another.

About 20 years after AA was founded, another group was founded for a similar purpose. It was painfully clear that people with drug addictions had no way of getting support and help. They were not able to attend Alcoholics Anonymous, but they lacked a support group of their own. As a result, Narcotics Anonymous was created.
These two organizations are very similar, but many alcoholics actually prefer NA for a number of reasons. Some feel that they are more friendly and less formal than AA. Others just feel more comfortable there.
A lot of drug addicts credit NA for providing them with the support they needed to stop using. Members only need to have a desire to stop abusing drugs. They do not have to pay membership fees to attend.
NA meetings are very laid back and relaxed. There are all different sizes, and some are big while others are smaller in size. They focus on a variety of different subjects, and some may feature special speakers.
For your first NA meeting, you are likely to feel a bit nervous, but you do not need to be. The other participants will be friendly to you because they remember what it was like to walk through those doors for the first time. No one will put you on the spot or make you feel uncomfortable. You should not be surprised if several people want to exchange phone numbers with you. They will be eager to give you support and make a new friend.

The purpose of Al-Anon is to offer support to the loved ones of addicts and alcoholics. This organization recognizes that families are often quite damaged because of the pain of addiction. They also do not always have a place to turn when they need help. They can find that at Al-Anon.
These meetings are open and available to anyone, regardless of age. You will find so much encouragement when you attend Al-Anon because you will see that others have faced similar challenges.

Teenagers and older children do not always feel comfortable talking with adults about their feelings. They usually prefer to talk with others their own age. Al-Anon’s Alateen component offers them that ability.
For young people, it is very common for them to feel alone in their struggles. They may not have friends who understand what they are going through. Because of Alateen, they now have an outlet that can give them the support they need.
Alateen meetings are available online for anyone who would like to join in with them. If you are, or a have a child between the ages of 13 and 18, this is an option you should consider. There are several different meetings throughout the week, at all different times.
Although 12-Step meetings do have their benefits, they are not right for everyone. SMART Recovery offers an alternative to those who are seeking a science-based, self-help program.Â
SMART stands for Self-Management And Recovery Training. They offer many support groups, and participants help each other recover from their addictions. The program helps people find the power within themselves to get off drugs and alcohol and live productive lives.Â
Participation in the SMART Recovery program is free of charge. They do not rely on labels like “alcoholic” or “addict,” which is something that many people find appealing. Their program can offer real-life solutions to help people get clean and sober and stay that way.

AÂ drug and alcohol detox can help you avoid some of the complications that can come along with recovery. It will also help you get through withdrawals feeling more comfortable.
As we mentioned earlier, drug and alcohol detox is often the first step a person must take to being recovering from addiction. This is entirely dependent upon the type(s) of drugs they use, as well as their substance abuse history. Some drugs require patients to go through this step.Â
For those who need it, detoxing is an essential part of the recovery process. Not only does it help people get through withdrawals, but it may also help them avoid experiencing medical complications.Â
Most experts advise people to opt for inpatient programs as opposed to outpatient ones for detoxification. This is solely for their own safety, and because of the risk of medical emergencies. A medically supervised detox means that patients are monitored for any changes that might need immediate intervention. Also, there is little to no risk of relapsing in an inpatient setting.
According to the SAMHSA treatment locator tool, there are no inpatient detox programs directly in Eagle. But there are eight of them that offer this service within a 100-mile radius of the city.Â
There may be some programs that offer detox on an outpatient basis. Also, some addiction treatment programs offer rapid detox, which can be dangerous, and should be avoided.
There are currently no hospitals within a 100-mile radius that offer detox services. People who live in Eagle, and who do not want to travel farther away from home will need to choose a different type of facility. But this is generally not a problem because there are so many different options available.
Drug rehab is the next step following detox, and it is one that should not be skipped. A quality rehabilitation program should be able to help people determine what caused them to abuse substances. Once the root problem is discovered, the appropriate treatment can then be recommended.Â
The best rehabs in the Eagle area offer treatment for co-occurring disorders, which often lead to addictions. If a person is battling depression, anxiety, or another condition, and it is ignored, they are very likely to relapse.
There are currently 17 drug rehab programs within a 10-mile radius of Eagle. They are a mixture of inpatient and outpatient programs. Also, some of them are private and others may be operated by the state or county.Â
Most people agree that choosing a private program is best, and it offers them the most support. This is certainly something to consider prior to making a commitment to particular drug rehab center.
Recovering alcoholics need the support that is available to them during alcohol rehab. Typically, people with drinking problems are not completely aware of how they got to that point. Some of them started drinking as a way to deal with stress, or because alcohol helped with the symptoms of a mental health condition.Â
Different forms of therapy help patients learn and understand the underlying cause for their alcoholism. That cause needs to be treated in order for them to be successful in recovery.
There are 17 rehabilitation programs that offer treatment for alcoholism in the Eagle area. Some people may wish to extend their search further because they do not want to go to rehab too close to home. In that case, there are additional options.Â
There are a total of 38 alcohol rehab programs within a 50-mile radius of Eagle. They include both inpatient and outpatient treatment facilities, and they are a mix of state/county-run programs and private ones.
The Promise Program offers high quality outpatient mental health services to those who need them. They are a part of Ashwood Recovery in Boise, Idaho. Their day treatment program is designed to help transition people back into their normal lives; particularly following an inpatient stay.

Clients participating in the Promise Program meet regularly with medical staff. They have sessions with a psychiatrist twice a week and participate in both individual and group therapy.
