And the problem is getting worse. A recent Seattle Times article estimates that 8 people overdose in Snohomish County every day. Not all of these folks died. However, it’s a sign that we have a problem on our hands.
The region’s strong 12-step network shows that sobriety is possible. If we can get more addicts to seek help, we could reduce the overdose rates. Addicts, after all, need love, support, and compassion to overcome their problems. They need to see that life after addiction is possible. They need people behind them to help them through the process.
Twelve-step meetings can provide this. The NA and AA meetings in Marysville are filled with kind, empathetic people. These folks want to see other addicts get sober. If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, we recommend that you attend.

Fortunately, we have the resources that addicts need. Narcotics Anonymous is a fantastic place for addicts to get their life in order.
Narcotics Anonymous (or NA for short) is a support group for addicts. The group holds meetings every day in nearly every city in America. Addicts gather to share stories, discuss their progress in, and support each other. Together, everyone strives to stay sober.
Meetings have a generally positive tone. Almost everyone there has done things they regret and is working to move past them. The group drinks coffee, cracks some jokes, and remind one another that getting sober is the best decision any of them have ever made.
You don’t need to be completely sober to attend a meeting. Most of the NA meetings in Marysville and other towns are open to everyone. As long as you have the desire to move past addiction, the group will welcome you with open arms.

District 12 of Snohomish County has scheduled several online NA meetings for those who need them. These meetings are done through the video conferencing app, Zoom, and they take place every day of the week, multiple times per day.
You may notice that some meetings are marked as “closed”. These meetings aren’t open to the general public.
Some groups prefer to have smaller, more intimate sessions. For these reasons, they try to limit their attendance to committed NA members. In order to attend one of these meetings, you must first go to several public meetings. Once you’ve shown your face a few times, the group will be happy to have you in closed meetings.

Read Our BlogThe alcohol problem in Snohomish County is just as bad as the opioid crisis. A report published by the County government estimates that nearly 25% of residents show signs of alcoholism. This is jarring, especially considering that the report shows less than 30% of alcoholics received treatment for the condition.
Even worse, DUIs are at an all-time high. In fact, Washington state has the ninth-highest drunk driving rate of any state in the nation.
This is particularly scary considering that several hundred Washington residents die in alcohol-related car accidents every year.
Of course, those alcoholics who evade car accidents are likely to harm themselves in other ways. Alcohol addiction causes damage to the liver, brain, and other organs. Those who suffer from it have an increased risk of cancer, heart disease, and other terminal illnesses.
It’s time for alcohol addicts to get the help they need.
Alcoholics Anonymous is similar to Narcotics Anonymous. They’re both 12-step programs designed to help addicts overcome their habits. Whereas NA is open to everyone who struggles with addiction, however, AA caters mostly to drinkers.
Every day, people who have an unmanageable drinking habit gather to offer each other support. These AA meetings happen in Marysville and nearly every other city in America. All meetings are free. Most of them are open to the public.

The Western Washington Area 72 Alcoholics Anonymous organization has scheduled several online AA meetings. These allow people to meet virtually from anywhere and get the support they need from others in recovery.
AA Intergroup has also set up many virtual AA meetings through their website. These meetings are done by Zoom, Skype or by using other programs.

If you have a relative that suffers from addiction, you know that the condition affects other people, too. The addict’s family and friends often suffer from the addiction even if they’re not addicts themselves.
It’s hard to watch someone we love struggle. We worry about their health. We wonder how long they’ll live. We want nothing more than for them to stop using and return to living life. All of these feelings can be overwhelming. They make us feel isolated and guilty. We feel like it’s our job to fix the problem but we know that there’s nothing we can do.
If these feelings sound familiar, Al-Anon could help you. This group was founded as a place for the family members of addicts to gather and support one another.

New members start by acknowledging that there are certain things we can’t change. A family member’s addiction, for example, is completely out of our control. Once the family member comes to terms with this, they can focus on living their own life.
Of course, the desire to help a loved one never goes away. The sadness and shame are hard to shake, too. But, once we accept the fact that we only have so much control, we start to think about the problem in a clearer way.

Although both AA and NA are excellent programs, they are often not enough for someone who is new to treatment. These individuals need a higher level of care so that they get the help and support they need. This usually requires going to a professional drug and alcohol treatment program.
People usually choose between an inpatient and outpatient program when they begin treatment. Many will opt for inpatient rehab because they need detox, or they need that higher level of support. But both can be effective, and both can work well, depending on the person’s individual needs.
There are also online options for drug and alcohol rehab. Many addiction treatment facilities have the ability to provide teleconference services for both therapy and group meetings. This is a great option for anyone who was unable to attend rehab in the past because of work or other obligations.
At Northpoint Recovery, we understand that there are a lot of barriers that keep people from going to rehab. For some, their health may be a challenge, or they may work long hours with no time off. For these reasons, we have incorporated online rehab into our services.
Patients with health insurance automatically have benefits to help cover the cost of drug and alcohol detox and rehab. Many people do not realize they have this coverage, and it may leave very little for them to pay out of pocket. For those who do not have health insurance, they can get more information about available policies by visiting HealthCare.gov.
But not everyone is able to get health insurance, and yet, they still need to go to rehab. There are ways to be creative about how to pay for their treatment. SAMHSA offers grants to those who meet their qualifications, and those grants will cover their treatment in full. Additional options include:
