Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous Information

Narcotics Anonymous got its start in the 1950s when AA was in full swing. The people who founded it realized that there needed to be something similar for drug addicts. The result was the NA meetings that we know of today.

The only requirement for attending an NA meeting is for you to have a desire to stop using drugs. You will never be asked to make any donations or pay any fees. The people there are all very welcoming. They will be very happy to see you walk through the doors.

There are different types of NA meetings. Some of them may have special speakers. Others may focus on various topics or subjects. Many of them will go over the 12 Steps of Recovery, and you will spend some time studying them.

NA meetings usually last for about an hour to an hour and a half. You may do different activities during that time. Sometimes participants will take some time discussing different topics. You won’t have to worry about being asked to speak or give your opinion until you’re ready. No one will put you on the spot when you’re not comfortable.

You will probably meet many people at your first NA meeting. There will be a lot of people who will introduce themselves to you, and many may even offer you their phone numbers. Don’t be afraid to talk with them. These are folks who understand what you have been through and the challenges you’re facing right now. If you feel comfortable, open up to them one on one. You may be surprised at what you learn about them and about yourself.

It should not be difficult at all to find Shelley area NA meetings. There are many to choose from within a 100-mile radius of the city.

Shelley Resource Profile

Alcoholics Anonymous Information

Alcoholics Anonymous was the first organization of its kind. It was founded in the 1930s by two men who wanted to find a way to help people recover from alcoholism. They knew that the group therapy model worked, and they had a desire to implement it in an outpatient setting. They also wanted to make the meetings available to anyone who needed help.

Alcoholics Anonymous

They were very successful with starting AA. Today, there are meetings held in many countries, all over the world. Nearly every city in every state in the U.S. has an AA organization as well.

In order to participate in AA, you only have to have a desire to stop drinking. You’ll never be asked to donate money or pay any membership fees. That is one of the best parts of it because it makes it so accessible to those who truly need their services.

Going to an AA meeting for the first time is likely to make you nervous. If the meeting is open, you can bring a friend or family member along with you. That might help you feel more comfortable. If the meeting is closed, only alcoholics are allowed to attend.

For your first time, you may want to search for meetings for beginners in or around the Shelley area. That will give you a good introduction to the organization so that you’ll know what to expect.

The people will all be very friendly toward you. You may make a lot of new friends, and they should help you feel right at home from the very beginning. If you start with a beginners meeting, eventually, you may want to move on to a different one. There is no problem with that at all, and many people do it.

Above all, relax, sit back and listen to others talk and share their stories. You will be amazed at what you can learn simply by listening to what other people have to say.

There are several AA meetings held in the Shelley area all week long. This is an extensive list to help people find one that is convenient for them.

What is Al-Anon and How Can it Help Families Impacted by Addiction?

Al-Anon has become an important resource for families that have been impacted by addiction. When someone is dealing with any type of substance abuse problem, the families suffer a great deal. They may have had to deal with financial burdens because of the addicted individual. They may worry about that person getting arrested or overdosing. It’s hard to know what it’s like until you’ve been through it.

What is Al-Anon?

Families that are facing these challenges need to have people they can turn to as well. That is what makes Al-Anon such a valuable resource. They can go to weekly meetings and talk with others who understand their situations and challenges. It’s not always easy for them to talk with other family members, and this organization gives them an outlet and a source of support.

Attending a Shelley area Al-Anon meeting can be so helpful for families. These are the local meetings within a 100-mile radius of the city.

What is Alateen?

Anyone of any age is more than welcome to attend an Al-Anon meeting. But for teenagers and sometimes older children, they may not always feel comfortable there. It may be difficult for them to share how they feel with a group of adults. They need a place where they can talk with others their own age about what they’re going through. That’s where Alateen comes in.

What is Alateen?

Alateen meetings are also held once every week. Adults oversee the meetings and make sure they all go well. If you have a teenager who has been affected because of an addicted loved one, attending one of these meetings is highly recommended.

There are two Alateen meetings near Shelley, Idaho. Here is the information for these meetings:

Additional Addiction Help and Resources, Idaho

Support groups can be a wonderful option for anyone who wants to stop drinking or using drugs. But they aren’t the right solution for everyone. Sometimes a professional approach is needed, and that just isn’t possible with AA or NA.

It is important for you to know about the other options that are available for you in or around the Shelley area for addiction recovery help. It may work better for you to go to a clinic or work with a therapist. Both can be very helpful to you and give you the tools you need to be successful.

Is Your Loved One at Risk for Alcohol Poisoning?

You may have a loved one who is an alcoholic, and the fact is, they are at risk for alcohol poisoning every time they drink. Sometimes people don’t realize that this is a real condition. They think that if they drink too much, they will just vomit or pass out. Unfortunately, that isn’t all that can happen to them.

When someone suffers from alcohol poisoning, it can be a potentially fatal condition. It usually happens when they consume a large amount over a short period of time. It can also happen when someone drinks while they are taking another drug at the same time. The effects of the alcohol can be stunted by the other substance so that the individual doesn’t feel like they’re getting drunk.

Symptoms of alcohol poisoning

Some of the signs of alcohol poisoning are:

  • A drop in body temperature (hypothermia).
  • Pale skin, or skin that appears to be tinted blue.
  • Passing out.
  • Becoming unresponsive.
  • Strange and abnormal breathing patterns
  • Excessive vomiting, which may cause choking.
  • Severe mental confusion.

Is Your Loved One at Risk for a Drug Overdose?

A drug overdose is a very serious condition that requires immediate medical help. Any drug – legal or illegal – can lead to an overdose if too much of it is taken at one time. People can overdose on drugs accidentally the first time they use something they are not used to. But many people will overdose after they relapse after trying to quit.

This type of overdose happens because of how quickly tolerance levels can change in the body. Depending on the individual, their tolerance level can change as soon as 24 hours after their last dose. Of course, this also depends on the drug they were using. When they relapse, they will usually take the same amount that they are used to. Some people will even take a little more in order to get a better high. When they do, it’s too much for them to handle, and the result is an overdose.

Some of the more common signs of a drug overdose are:

  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Shallow breathing or absent breathing
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Changes in body temperature
  • A fast or slow pulse
  • An increase or decrease in blood pressure
  • Extreme fatigue and sleepiness
  • Severe confusion

People may also begin having seizures, become unconscious, or slip into a coma. Everyone is different as far as how they respond after overdosing on drugs.

What to do if Someone Overdoses on Drugs or Alcohol

Tips in the event of an overdose

If you believe that someone you love has overdosed on either alcohol or drugs, it’s important to act quickly. You should take the following steps:

  • Call 911 right away. Don’t attempt to try to get them to the hospital on your own. They may need emergency help right there, at the scene. Delaying even a few minutes can put their life in jeopardy.
  • Stay with them. Don’t leave their side while you wait for help to arrive.
  • Avoid giving them anything to eat or drink while you’re with them. Wait until help arrives.
  • Try to keep them awake. Talk with them and try to get them to answer questions.
  • Be honest with the paramedics. Tell them what type of substance was taken and when, if you know. The more information you can give them, the better you can help them treat the patient.

There is no doubt that you’ll be scared and nervous if you are with someone who has overdosed on drugs or alcohol. Try to remain calm. That is the only way you’ll be able to make sound decisions and act quickly enough to get help to them.

Addiction Treatment is Another Available Resource

In many cases, outpatient help like AA, NA or even therapy isn’t enough for someone who needs to recover from an addiction. You may find that you need to consider going to a drug or alcohol treatment center to get assistance. Many people do, and you’re certainly not alone if that’s the case.

Addiction treatment can be such a rewarding experience. You will benefit from the expertise of those who work in the field, and they know how to help you the right way. Going to rehab can change everything for you, and give you the tools you need to finally get and stay sober and clean.

It’s not always easy to know when you might be appropriate for a drug and alcohol rehab facility. Maybe you’re feeling a bit torn, and you’re not sure if it’s the right choice for you.

You might need to consider going to rehab if you:

  • Have a history of relapsing.
  • Have a strong desire to quit, but you still feel as though you can’t.
  • Live in a home where substance abuse is the norm, and it is even encouraged.
  • Are noticing that using drugs or alcohol is impacting your daily life in a negative way.
  • Feel hopeless, and like you’ll never be able to stop using.
  • Have been diagnosed or believe you should be diagnosed with a mental health condition that could have led to your substance abuse problem.

If any of these apply to you, it’s wise to consider professional treatment. There are so many benefits you’ll gain from rehab. You’ll be able to spend time talking with other patients, and you’ll learn from their experiences. You will have the opportunity to work with a therapist to determine the cause of your addiction. You’ll also get to participate in many other types of proven therapeutic methods.

Whether or not you need to detox prior to rehab will depend on the type(s) of substances you have been using. There are several different drugs that actually do require that you go through the detoxification process. They are:

If your drug of choice doesn’t fall into one of these categories, a determination will be made about your need for detox.

Detoxing is a very important part of the healing process, and it should be the first step. It allows you to get treatment for your withdrawal symptoms, which could mean a more comfortable recovery for you. Drug and alcohol detox can also help you avoid many of the complications that can accompany withdrawal.

Northpoint Recovery Drug and Alcohol Treatment FAQ

For many people, going to an inpatient treatment program is the best way to recover from an addiction. These are usually individuals who need a higher level of care in order to get clean and sober and stay that way long-term. In the vast majority of cases, when someone is new to recovery, this is where they begin.

Northpoint Recovery offers an excellent inpatient rehab program for people who need this level of care. The reality is that a lot of people cannot recover at all without starting with inpatient treatment first.

If you are new to the idea of getting help for your addiction, you probably have a lot of questions that need to be answered. We would like to take this opportunity to list some of our most frequently asked questions and provide you with the answers you need.

Your health insurance company is required by law to provide you with benefits to help cover the cost of addiction treatment. This is because of the Affordable Care Act, which went into effect in 2010.

Because of this law, so many more people are now able to get the help they need than ever before. It does not matter what type of addiction you have, or how long you have been using. You can still get the help you need to recover and get help with the overall costs.

The amount that your health insurance will pay toward your treatment varies. There are many factors to consider, but it all comes down to what your individual policy states. Every insurance plan is different, so it is vital to know what your benefits are prior to making arrangements to go to rehab.

Some people find that their health insurance plans will cover their treatment in full for both detox and rehab. Others may find that they only have a small co-pay to cover for an inpatient program. In general, many plans are likely to cover outpatient treatment in full.

The best way to learn about what your individual insurance plan covers is to have your benefits verified. This can be done for you when you contact Northpoint Recovery. We can take your information and contact your insurance company on your behalf. This allows us to maximize your insurance and ensure that you get the best payout to lower your own out of pocket expenses.

If you do not currently have health insurance, you may want to start by shopping for a policy through HealthCare.gov. There are many affordable plans available for you, based on your particular needs.

If that is not an option for you, there are other ways to get help. You may want to talk with someone at your local Department of Social Services. They might be able to guide you toward an affordable option for addiction treatment. Some treatment programs also offer grants that can completely cover the entire cost of your inpatient stay.

If neither of these will work for you, there may be ways to pay for your treatment out of pocket. You might want to consider any of the following:

  • Talking with someone at your local community center about a scholarship program for those who need addiction treatment.
  • Talking with a family member or friend about sponsoring you, or offering you a loan.
  • Taking out a personal loan from a bank or credit union.
  • Charging your detox and rehab services to a credit card.
  • Getting information about other financing options that might cover your financial needs.

Northpoint Recovery is located at 10787 West Ustick Road in Boise, Idaho. It only takes a little over 4 hours to get to the facility from Shelley. You could also consider taking a flight to cut down on your travel time, and many health insurance companies will cover the cost for this.

There are a lot of benefits to going away to rehab, which is why many people prefer it to getting help at a program closer to home. Some of these benefits include:

  • Being able to get away from the stress of their everyday lives.
  • Having the opportunity to relax and focus on their recoveries.
  • Getting away from a potentially dangerous situation they may have been living in at home.
  • Possibly starting over in a new community once their treatment is over.
  • Being able to get away from potential triggers and people or situations that may have led to the addiction.

Northpoint Recovery is one of the best drug and alcohol treatment programs in the State of Idaho. While there are many others, we pride ourselves on having a very high success rate and an excellent track record among our patients.

Yes, Northpoint Recovery offers patients both drug and alcohol detox as well as rehab services. This is important because it can be unsettling to have to travel to a different facility once you have completed the detoxification process. Having access to both in the same location is much more convenient and it makes for an easy transition.

The best way to begin your treatment is to start by getting a free addiction assessment. This can be done right over the phone. We will talk with you about your substance use history and ask you a lot of questions about your current situation. You will be talking with a professionally trained admissions specialist, and we will tell you the type of treatment that is best for you.

Once your assessment is done, we will give you our recommendation. If you agree, we will begin the insurance verification process. You will also receive an admission date.
