Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Resources in Preston, ID

Recovering from a substance abuse problem can be challenging. But there are many alcohol and drug addiction recovery resources available for those who live in Preston, Idaho. The issue is that many people do not know what they are. As a result, they will usually either enter into a cycle of addiction (quitting and relapsing continually), or they will simply keep using.

There is a much better way, and recovering from an addiction is possible with the right support. Many people find the help they need through 12-Step groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. There are also professional options available, and Al-Anon is there to guide families through this difficult time.

We believe that it is important for everyone with an addiction who desires to quit to be informed. We also believe that the loved ones of addicts and alcoholics need to know the types of services that can help them as well. For these reasons, we have created a complete addiction recovery resource guide for the Preston area.

Please keep in mind that we have no affiliation with any of the following organizations. They are only listed as possible resources.

Alcoholics Anonymous

For many alcoholics, attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings has changed their lives. AA is a place where members gather on a regular basis to talk with each other and get support. People come from all walks of life, and anyone with a drinking problem who has a desire to stop is welcome to attend.

AA has been around for a very long time; since 1935. The two men who started the organization felt that peer support was a necessary component for alcoholics in recovery. It was a piece that had been missing from the healing process. Because of their contributions, millions of people all over the world have benefited from attending AA.

It is not difficult to find AA meetings in the Preston area. Some may require some driving, but it is important to find one that is a good fit. We have listed the meetings in this area below.

Preston Resource Profile

Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous is very similar to AA, but there are some differences. This is an organization that is dedicated to helping anyone with any type of substance abuse problem. That includes alcoholics. They follow their own 12 Steps, which are slightly different from what people learn in AA.

NA started in 1955, and until that time, there really was no peer support available for people with drug addictions. They are a nonprofit organization, and both men and women attend meetings, which are held once a week.

Attending a Preston area NA meeting can provide recovering drug addicts with so much support. It is helpful to learn from a group of peers. There are several meetings to choose from.

Al-Anon

Al-Anon targets their services to helping the families of people with alcoholism and other types of addictions. They understand that these individuals’ needs are often overlooked. In fact, they are usually so focused on caring for their addicted loved ones that they neglect to take care of themselves adequately. Al-Anon gives them a way to do that.

Like other support groups, the meetings are held once a week. People who attend are invited to simply listen to others tells their stories until they feel ready to share with the group. They offer so much support to people who really need it.

There are several Al-Anon meetings in the Preston area. We have listed all of them below.

Alateen

For young people, it is often very difficult to cope when someone you love is battling an addiction. They can easily become isolated from their friends and other family members. Many end up dealing with symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, and some even end up using themselves. These are all reasons why Alateen is so vital.

This organization is a part of Al-Anon, but they are dedicated to helping young people. Teens, young adults and even older children are invited to attend Alateen meetings. They meet on a weekly basis, and they give the participants a chance to connect with others who are facing similar challenges in their own lives.

There are also several Preston area Alateen meetings. The information for them is as follows:

Sometimes young people prefer to chat online rather than to meet in person. For that reason, Alateen offers regular chat meetings as well. Adults moderate them carefully, and they are an excellent resource for teens and young adults.

When is it Time to Consider an Inpatient Treatment Program?

It is normal to feel a bit nervous about going to an inpatient treatment center; especially if one has never done so in the past. The fear of the unknown often keeps them from getting the information they need to make the best decision for them.

The reality is that there comes a time when inpatient care is really the best option. Some of the signs that indicate someone might benefit from this form of treatment include:

  • Having failed at an outpatient treatment program in the past.
  • Having relapsed more than one time.
  • Having used drugs or alcohol for many years.
  • Using heavily on a daily basis.
  • Using more than one drug at a time, or combining a drug with alcohol.

Inpatient rehab can be such a rewarding experience. It allows people to completely focus on their recovery and take the time they need to heal from their addictions.

Drug and alcohol detox may be a required first step as you begin your recovery journey. It really depends on the type of drug(s) you have been using. For example,  you may be required to go through the detoxification process if you have been using any of the following:

Stopping the use of any of these substances is likely to result in serious complications; especially if the quit is done cold turkey. Detox helps to lessen the severity of withdrawal symptoms and it can help to reduce the risk of dangerous complications.

After detoxing, the patient usually then moves on to drug and alcohol rehab. This is where they receive the necessary therapy to help them recover even more. This form of treatment is great at addressing the mental part of the addiction. Patients learn new coping skills, and the reasons for their dependence upon substances is discovered. This allows them to get the treatment they need for the root cause.

A lot of people actually start using because they are trying to self-medicate the symptoms of a co-occurring disorder. It is important for that condition to be treated. Otherwise, their recovery is not likely to be long-term.
