Rather than attend an Al-Anon meeting, teens and young adults with an alcoholic friend or family member should go to an Alateen meeting. It can be especially tough for youngsters to open up completely if there are other adults present. Since there are no adults in Alateen meetings, this hurdle is absent, and makes for an easier atmosphere in which to share everything. Alateen members offer no judgment or criticism, and are simply there to help however possible.
