Not everyone is receptive to opening up in Al-Anon groups. And for young people in particular, sharing experiences with a group of strangers two or three times their age can be difficult.
Alateen is another 12-step group that tries to make the sharing process much more comfortable. Members in these groups are required to fall into a certain age range (usually around 10 to 20 years). And that can make members feel more at ease sharing their stories and learning from those of others.

- Outpatient Rehabilitation – These programs are quite a bit more flexible. Treatment sessions occur in the evenings and on weekends, giving patients the freedom to spend their days and nights as they wish. They’re usually about 3 months long.
- Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) – These programs are about 3 months long too. And treatment sessions take place in the evenings, just like outpatient. However, these sessions tend to occur more frequently and usually last longer than a normal outpatient program.
